Therapeutic and Surgical Class 4 Laser

Precision Treatment. Faster Healing.

Our advanced Class 4 laser combines precision surgery with therapeutic laser treatment, allowing us to remove selected sarcoids, warts, melanomas and other skin lesions while promoting healing, reducing pain and supporting recovery from tendon, ligament and other soft tissue injuries—all at your own yard.

Modern laser technology has transformed the way many equine conditions can be treated. At KR Equine Veterinary Services Ltd, our advanced Class 4 laser combines the precision of laser surgery with the therapeutic benefits of photobiomodulation, allowing us to treat a wide range of conditions conveniently at your own yard.

Whether removing selected skin lesions or supporting the recovery of tendon and ligament injuries, laser technology offers a minimally invasive, evidence-based approach that can improve comfort, reduce healing times and help horses return to work sooner.

What Is a Class 4 Laser?

A Class 4 laser is a powerful medical laser with two important different applications:

  • Surgical laser – used to precisely remove selected skin lesions and abnormal tissue.
  • Therapeutic laser – used to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, reduce inflammation and relieve pain in injured tissues.

This versatility allows us to offer both surgical treatment and rehabilitation using the same advanced technology.

Laser Surgery

Laser surgery provides an excellent alternative to traditional surgical techniques for many superficial skin conditions.

The laser works by precisely cutting tissue while simultaneously sealing many small blood vessels and nerve endings. This often results in:

  • Reduced bleeding during surgery.
  • Excellent surgical precision.
  • Less trauma to surrounding healthy tissue.
  • Reduced post-operative swelling.
  • Improved visibility throughout the procedure.
  • Comfortable recovery for many horses.

Many procedures can be performed safely under standing sedation, allowing treatment to take place at your own yard without the need for a general anaesthetic.

Conditions Suitable for Laser Surgery

Our Class 4 laser can be used to treat a variety of superficial conditions, including:

  • Selected sarcoids
  • Warts (papillomas)
  • Selected melanomas
  • Small skin tumours
  • Granulation tissue (“proud flesh”)
  • Certain cysts
  • Other carefully selected skin masses

Every case is assessed individually, and we will advise whether laser surgery is the most appropriate treatment option or whether alternative techniques would offer a better outcome.

Therapeutic Laser Treatment

In addition to surgery, our Class 4 laser is widely used as a non-invasive treatment to support healing and reduce pain.

Laser therapy works by delivering specific wavelengths of light energy into damaged tissues, stimulating cellular activity and encouraging the body’s natural repair mechanisms.

Research has shown that therapeutic laser treatment may help:

  • Reduce inflammation.
  • Relieve pain.
  • Improve local blood circulation.
  • Stimulate tissue repair.
  • Encourage collagen production.
  • Promote faster healing of injured soft tissues.

Treatments are painless, well tolerated and usually take only a short time to perform.

Conditions That May Benefit from Therapeutic Laser

Laser therapy may be recommended as part of the treatment plan for:

  • Tendon injuries
  • Ligament injuries
  • Muscle strains
  • Back pain
  • Joint inflammation
  • Soft tissue wounds
  • Surgical incision healing
  • Bruising and soft tissue trauma

It is often used alongside rehabilitation programmes to support recovery and optimise healing.

A Treatment Plan Tailored to Your Horse

No two injuries are the same.

Our vets will carry out a thorough clinical examination before recommending whether laser therapy, laser surgery or an alternative treatment is most appropriate.

For rehabilitation cases, laser treatment is frequently combined with diagnostic ultrasound, controlled exercise programmes and repeat assessments to monitor healing and guide a safe return to work.

Advanced Care, Delivered to Your Yard

One of the greatest advantages of our ambulatory laser service is convenience.

Many laser procedures can be performed at your own premises, allowing horses to remain relaxed in familiar surroundings while receiving advanced veterinary treatment without the need to travel.
